Dr. Nimer Ali Faiyaz / People, ideas and experiences

It starts with understanding.

I trained as a doctor, then began working on the other side of the clinical conversation, in pharmaceuticals. That first change in perspective led to others: healthcare, business, leadership, different cultures and biomedical innovation. Each added a little more to how I understand people and problems.

01 / A life in layers

The most useful perspective is not always your own.

My journey began in medicine, but my professional life began in pharmaceutical sales and marketing. Moving from clinical understanding into the commercial world showed me that two people can look at the same decision and see different things.

From there, my work expanded into fundraising, specialized healthcare marketing, business development, medical devices, organizational leadership, regulation and digital systems. The roles changed; my interest in understanding what people need, and why good ideas sometimes fail in practice, only grew.

02 / The wider world

The world looks different from another side of the table.

Growing up in the Middle East and later working across Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Denmark introduced me to very different ways of living, working and making decisions. Across my career, I have worked with people from more than 70 nationalities. That has made me more attentive to context, not more certain that I understand everyone.

Saudi Arabia gave me responsibility in complex healthcare settings, alongside multicultural clinical and nonclinical teams. Denmark brought clinical immersion, interdisciplinary biomedical design and later medical-device business development. In both places, listening to people with a different frame of reference was part of the work, not an optional extra.

03 / How I see things

The interesting problems often sit between disciplines.

A clinician, a finance colleague, a regulator and a patient can describe the same situation in entirely different terms. Having worked with healthcare marketing, hospital information systems, standards, accreditation and operational reviews, I have learned to look for what falls between those accounts.

I enjoy asking what people are actually experiencing, not only what the procedure or dashboard says should be happening. Before choosing a solution, I want to know whether we have understood the problem.

04 / People & Potential

What we pass on matters too.

One of the most satisfying parts of my work has been helping someone gain confidence, develop a skill or see a difficult question differently. That is why mentoring and sharing knowledge matter to me.

It is also why I care about the life skills young people need beyond examinations and qualifications. In 2024, I spoke at TEDxLACAS about developing soft skills in students. I hope to keep contributing to that conversation.

05 / Still a work in progress

The journey is not finished yet.

I have learned that the most interesting ideas often come from unexpected conversations and from people who see the world differently. There are still plenty of questions I want to explore, places I want to understand and things I want to learn.

If something here resonates with you, or you see it differently, I would enjoy hearing your perspective. Not every conversation needs an agenda.
